Managing Grant Funds
Prior to writing a proposal, assess whether your organization is prepared to implement and monitor the funds it may receive. Mismanaging a grant can have serious consequences, including having to return funds, damaging your reputation, and jeopardizing eligibility for future funding. General tasks involved in managing a funded project include the following:
- Inspiring and sustaining the participants’ interest and excitement
- Checking regularly that the project is meeting stated goals and objectives
- Adjusting the project’s implementation along the way, as needed
- Evaluating the project carefully, collecting information about instructional practices and student outcomes
- Reporting progress to stakeholders
- Validating that grant money is being used for allowable expenses
- Facilitating visits from auditors and administrators
